A new Snapshot was released today from Mojang to let us see into the future update. This Snapshot is called 12w17a and it didn’t include much but the things that were added or fixed are things that needed to be added. Below are the new items for the future Minecraft update
Now the first thing you’ll notice is that Jeb has added editable books. No you cannot now eat the books if you run out of food but you can write in them and allow people to see your messages that you leave behind.

With the ability to write in the books adventure maps now have the ability to get rid of signs and compress everything into books for easier reading. If you’re not making an adventure map anytime soon you can just have a library with a stockpile of books. The downside is that the recipe for books has been changed to 3 pieces of paper and 1 piece of leather to make one book. It isn’t a huge deal but it’s going to get tedious having to find many cows till kill for your new library or person memoirs.
One more addition to Minecraft is the new colored half slabs of wood. Before every type of wood was turned into regular wooden slabs but now every type of wood has its own colored wood, for example dark wood or wood you find in snow biomes has a dark half slab called spruce wooden slab. This will help with decorative purposes on your house or whatever you’ve decided to build.  Photo Source: reddit.com Also wooden slabs now act as wood and not stone so you won’t need a pick axe anymore to break them.
The last thing that has been added but not mentioned on the website is that silk touch pick axes will break glass panes back into the panes and not totally destroy them.These new features are a great new addition to the game and will make it more enjoyable for everyone who plays it.
