Prometheus marks the return of Ridley Scott to the Alien franchise bringing with him his sense of scope, visual amazement, wonder, and drama. Prometheus is a Sci-Fi thriller on a grand scale. With its gorgeous backdrops of a new alien world, the vast openness of space, to the awe and mystery of the alien pyramid Prometheus is a treat for the human eye and the story ain’t half bad either.

I had the pleasure of joining L to the 5th At one of their weekly midnight movie events and let me say, watching a movie with some of your closes friends is fun but imagine watching with hundreds, It was a blast! This week we premiered Prometheus, A Sci Fi horror where a team of explorers discover clues spread out all over Earth pointing to other “higher” beings and constellation believed to be their home world. Funded by the Weyland Corporation the team sets out on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe in a trillion dollar space ship. Once there they find more than they bargained for when they find out the home world is not what it seemed and homes a deadly biological weapon which their “creators” were actually going to use to destroy the human race, and not to mention the alternate agenda the Weyland Corp has and has their android David to see it through with any means necessary. This has the team fighting a terrifying battle to save themselves and the future of the human race.

Overview

The first thing you will notice is that this film is GEORGEOUS! The film opens with vast valleys and lushes forests and waterfalls of the new alien home world. The set design and scope of the film is really felt. You believe the ship really is as large as the empire state building and could really exist. The alien pyramid gives you a creepy chill and keeps you in suspense as you watch this team of explorers walking around.

The pacing was perfect not too long and just enough time to get the story across without over explaining things. Some mysteries and questions get answered while more arrive. The first half of the movie has a nice calm pace and really helps set up the characters and make you feel for them when things go bad. And boy once things start to go bad they just don’t end. Ridley Scott holds nothing back each scene gets more and more gruesome and you start to wonder what else can go wrong. He does a great job of making it fresh and yet still familiar to the fans of the original. You start to think, if David had just not open that door things would have been fine!

Which brings me to my last comment, Michael Fassbender as David the android stole the film. He played the role perfectly. His subtleties in his emotions were spot on. The movie plot could really be about the fight between human and robots and how the consciousness of robots will soon give them the will to rise up.

Conclusion

Even if you’re not familiar with the alien franchise this is a great move to see, its full of suspense, awe, and wonder and some great filmmaking. Check out L to the 5th on Facebook for other events and the next movie premiere. And make sure to go see this movie it will be one of the best films this summer!

I give it 4 Face-Huggers out of 5!

Call me a geek, nerd, gamer, whatever you want! I’m just passionate about tech and video games. I’m always on the look out for the latest Game and Tech news, even when I was younger and my parents wouldn’t allow video games in the house I would find a way to play the latest games. Be it by my friends or at the Arcade, remember those? I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a BA in Video Editing and am an avid gamer. Some of my favorite games of all time are Mega Man X, Ocarina of time, and Mass Effect. Although I play a lot of games I still find time to have a full time job and go outside. On my free time I enjoy hitting the gym and running, Soccer has to be my favorite sport to play while Football being my favorite sport to watch. Although I’ll be getting married this spring gaming has to be my second marriage.

  2. Great review! Honestly, the whole Alien franchise isn’t really my style, but everyone else in my family loves them and was dying for this to come out (our kids already saw it and said it was great). Your review has me thinking I might enjoy it though…I’m thinking I might take my husband to see it for Father’s Day.

Prometheus – I haven’t seen the trailers for this but I LOVE the alien movies… weird but my favorite was Alien and then Alien vs Predator. I didn’t know Prometheus was Alien as well. I can’t wait to see this! Thanks for sharing.
